It has a very long serum half-life, resulting from slow urinary excretion and mode rate protein binding. Doxycycline and minocycline, along with oxytetracycline, show the least in vitro calcium binding of the clinically available tetracyclines. The improved distribution properties of the 6-deoxytetracyclines have been attributed to greater lipid solubility.
