DL-Cystine is a covalently linked dimeric nonessential amino acid formed by the oxidation of CYSTEINE. Two molecules of cysteine are joined together by a disulfide bridge to form cystine.
Biochem/physiol Actions
DL-Cystine is a racemic mixture of the proteinogenic amino acids L-cystine and the non-proteinogenic D-cystine. DL-cystine is used in the preparation of sulfur-containing dimeric and monomeric surfactants.
