Valinomycin can selectively combine with K+ ions to form lipid-soluble complexes, so that K+ can easily pass through the membrane lipid bilayer. Valinomycin is a respiratory chain ionophore inhibitor. Permeability, inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation to produce Valinomycin is produced by Streptomyces (Bacterium streptomyces).
