The deprotonation of aromatic hydrocarbons can be achieved by using the aminomagnesium compound. Compared with lithium base reagents, the aminomagnesium compounds can tolerate various active functional groups, such as ester group, nitro group and even ketone carbonyl group. Benzoylation is achieved by deprotonation of aromatic hydrocarbons containing ester groups, followed by reaction with benzoyl chloride.
