Concanavalin A is not blood group specific, but has affinity for terminal α-D-mannosyl and α-D-glucosyl residues. The presence of Ca2+ and Mn2+ ions is required to show activity. Concanavalin A dissociates into dimers at pH 6.5 or lower. When the pH is between 5.8 and 7.0 Chemicalbook, Concanavalin A exists in the form of tetramers; when the pH is higher than 7.0, higher aggregates are formed.
